Local Resources in Rhode Island

NRI Community Services recognizes the crucial role that natural and peer support systems play in promoting wellness and long term recovery from traumatic events, mental health crises and addiction. Therefore, education about these options, and referral to them is a key element in all of the treatment plans we develop for the clients we serve. Mental Health Information and Advocacy

Rhode Island Network of Care
A website tool that allows people to build folders for gathering personal healthcare and community support information. This new website includes information about insurance, legislative activity related to behavioral health issues, a database for finding appropriate services, and community announcements and nationwide news.

NAMI of Rhode Island (NAMI-RI)
NAMI-RI is a resource center for all those concerned with improving the lives of people with mental illness. The link above offers information about support groups and educational resources that are available to members and others seeking information.

Rhode Island Council of Community Mental Health Organizations (RICCMHO)
The Rhode Island Council of Community Mental Health Organizations (RICCMHO) is a responsive resource comprised of nine private, non-profit community mental health organizations in Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals
Committed to assuring access to quality services and supports for Rhode Islanders with developmental disabilities, mental health issues, substance abuse issues, and chronic long term medical conditions requiring a hospital setting. This is accomplished through the assessment of health care and support needs; planning and policy development; and purchase or provision of services and supports.

Mental Health Association of Rhode Island
MHA strives to make mental health care achievable, affordable, and accessible for all Rhode Islanders. The mission of the MHA of Rhode Island is to promote mental health, prevent mental illness, and improve mental health services through advocacy, education, and research.

RI Coalition for the Homeless
The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless is organized to promote and preserve the dignity and quality of life for men, women, and children by pursuing comprehensive and cooperative solutions to the problems of housing and homelessness. This is accomplished through advocacy, education, collaboration, technical assistance, and selected direct services provided to homeless individuals and families, coalition members, elected officials, and the community at large.

Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN)
RIPIN is a statewide, nonprofit agency that provides information, training, support and advocacy to parents seeking help for their children.

Parent Support Network of Rhode Island (PSN-RI) PSN-RI is an organization of families supporting families with children and youth who are at risk for or have serious behavioral, emotional, and/or mental health challenges, having consideration for their background and values.

Substance Abuse, Addiction, Recovery

RI Communities for Addiction Recovery Efforts (RICAREs)
RICAREs is a grass-roots alliance dedicated to developing a voice of empowerment for, and decreasing stigma about, those in alcohol and other drug dependency recovery.

Rhode Island Al-Anon and Alateen
This Web site contains information about Rhode Island Area Al-Anon, including meeting schedules, service meetings, fellowship events, and our Area newsletter. If your life has been affected by another individual's drinking, we invite you to join us at a meeting.

SSTAR Rhode Island (Stanley Street Treatment and Resources)
Stanley Street Treatment and Resources (SSTAR) is a non-profit health care and social service agency that collaborates with NRICS to provide a wide range of mental health and substance abuse treatment services to people throughout the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Developmental Disabilities

Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council (RIDDC) RIDDC offers information about new programs and services, as well as updates on issues related to the care and treatment of persons with developmental disabilities.

Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL)
OSCIL is dedicated to assisting persons with disabilities remain in, or return to, independent living in the community. The link above offers information on handicapped accessible housing options that are currently available to rent.
